At The Big Sheep, we’re more than a family fun theme park!
We’re also a working farm so often, as you walk the grounds, you’ll see chickens flapping, goats leaning over to say hello, sheep racing, pigs snorting, sheepdogs playing and lot of the animals wanting feeding by you! As well as being educational, we love to have fun and share our love of the farm and our animals with you and all the family.
Our dedicated staff members are on hand to help you get the most out of your visit. They will guide you to our daily events like bottle feeding the lambs, sheep racing and the sheepdog trials as well as assisting you in the petting farm.
Throughout the farm area and the petting farm, children of all ages can enjoy having close contact with the animals and have a chance to pet them. You can also watch our many activities and events that we show daily.
All visitors love having a picnic on the grass in our picnic area which is right beside the soft play area and playground. This outdoor play area is suitable for all children from babies right up to adults! Make sure you don’t feed the animals food from your picnic though, it’s always best to be safe and buy the food from our shop as you arrive.
Often, almost all year round, we have baby animals in our petting farm that you can watch and pet. Our kids goats have their own obstacle course in their animal pen. Our animals are used to getting lots of attention and being handled making them the perfect way to experience a farm in a safe environment. Each animal is cared for on our farm like domesticated animals are. All of their food is carefully monitored including their intake of fruit. We feed them enough nutrients but also allow for the fact that you and the family will enjoy giving them their feed as well.
Our animals, including rabbits, sheep, chickens, pigs and goats, including the the kids, do wander around the farm occasionally so you might find one in the play areas or trying their luck in the picnic area!
So while you enjoy a picnic, you could be joined by a staring animal! Don’t let that put you and the family off bringing your own picnic or choosing a selection of food from our cafe to eat in the picnic area.
The farm is the perfect place to bring children and we often get schools visiting. All the children love not only seeing the animals in their own environment and at the petting farm but also the play areas that are around The Big Sheep as well as a train ride.

There’s so much fun to be had at our farm park when you visit with the family and say hello to our animals!
All the children have good fun in the petting farm having close contact with all the animals including the pigs, goats, rabbits and learning the history of the farm and how it went from being a working farm to the amazing day out for all the family!
The farm started to expand with a playground here and a ride there and now, it’s one of the best days out in Devon!
It not all goats, pigs, rabbits, and other animals, it’s also home to some of the biggest and best roller coaster rides in North Devon!
But every visit to the farm isn’t complete without finding your favourite animal. Most children arrive looking to see the babies and leave being in love with the sheepdog or the pigs!
And it isn’t like a farm you’ve ever seen before! Yes, there’s the normal farm machinery, yes, there’s the normal farm animal pens, and yes, there’s the normal farm smell from the animals but after that…it’s the best farm you’ll ever see! It’s a place that children can run free, see an animal up close, stroke the animals, feed an animal themselves and just have fun.
Children can also relax in our soft play area and feed themselves instead of the animals! And if they’ve managed to not tired themselves out, there’s always events and shows happening throughout the day suitable for children of all ages.
