The BIG Sheep Indoor Animal Barn

As well a fun day out for the whole family, The BIG Sheep is a working farm and so throughout the year there are often cute and cuddly baby animals born.

Visit The BIG Sheep between January and April when our barn becomes a lambing maternity unit!

If you are lucky you may even see a real life birth. A magical moment for anyone.
You can bottle feed lambs from April 1st onwards feeding them their lunchtime and evening bottles.

All The BIG Sheep dogs on site are pure bred collies. Each dog has a role on the farm helping the shepherds run the farm or helping out with the demonstrations and shows. Throughout the year The BIG Sheep normally have at least one litter of very fluffy lively puppies born. Everyone coos over the puppies, including the staff!

The indoor animal barn has various animals throughout the year from baby piglets, pygmy goats, kittens, puppies, lambs, rabbits, guinea pigs and chicks. All born on site or in local Devon schools the baby animals grow up on the BIG Sheep farm with their Mums and Dads.

The BIG Sheep animal barn is always full of greedy sheep so don't forget to buy sheep food on arrival so you can hand feed the friendly fellows. They really are the best fed sheep in the world and love the attention they get from visitors.

Pets Corner

Throughout the summer holidays The BIG Sheep run a pets corner where you can get the opportunity to get closer to the animals in the special animal handling sessions. The staff team will tell you about each of the animals, teaching you how best to hold them and giving tips on how to care from them.

The Hatch Factor

The BIG Sheep and Lloyd Maunder have teamed up with local Devon schools and introduced chicken incubators.

The BIG Sheep give each school a small incubator which holds 4 fertilized eggs. The chicks hatch in the schools classroom (often during school hours), they stay with the school for approximately a week and then come and live at The BIG Sheep.

It's a wonderful project which every school has really enjoyed. The project ends up involving the whole school as each of the classes from the school usually end up visiting the class with the incubator.
More information about the project can be found on the Lloyd Maunder website
